Behavior [ ]

Rain is a semi-mutual temporary, global occurrence[1] that tin happen randomly at any time within the Overworld. In colder biomes, and at certain altitudes, it snows instead. No rain occurs in warmer biomes such as the desert and the savanna, likewise as in other dimensions.

The average rainfall lasts 0.5–ane Minecraft day, and there is a 0.5–7.5 day delay between rains. Pelting has a small take chances to worsen into thunderstorms.

Rainy weather always clears at sunrise later on sleeping in a bed. Otherwise, it stops after a random elapsing of fourth dimension.

In Bedrock Edition, pelting can autumn tilted,[ verify ] and snow particles can fall twisting, bending, and moving around. In Java Edition rain and snowfall autumn straight down.

Effects [ ]

A heavy rain obscuring the distance.

The sun is non visible during rain although the sunrise afterglow is visible.

Rainfalls darken the world, causing the light from the sun to subtract by 3, bringing information technology to light level 12 in full daylight. Moonlight, nonetheless, is not reduced, and remains at light level 4. The heaven itself darkens, even in biomes where it does not rain, and in Coffee Edition, celestial bodies (the sunday, moon, and stars) are no longer visible.[2] In Bedrock Edition, the sun and moon are still visible in biomes with no pelting. While flight, rain also decreases visibility on land. The clouds darken from white to a light greyness, although clouds themselves do not precipitate. Although the sun is non visible during rain, the glow associated with sunrise and sunset is still visible.

Rain extinguishes fires (including flaming arrows[three]), although information technology does non extinguish lit campfires or fires on netherrack or magma blocks.[4] Pelting does not solidify lava, and does not empty lava cauldrons. Mobs on fire are quenched on contact with pelting, preventing skeletons, strays, zombies, zombie villagers, drowned, and phantoms from burning during the solar day. During rain, drowned can go out bodies of h2o when chasing a target, as if it were night time. Endermen and snowfall golems may dice due to their weakness to h2o; they have damage at a rate of 1 ♥ per half second. Endermen teleport randomly until they find a dry out place. Blazes and striders that are brought into the Overworld also take harm on contact with pelting.

At a sure biome-dependent pinnacle, the pelting becomes snowfall, resulting in huge natural mountains having snow on the peaks while information technology is raining on the footing. Each biome has a sure temperature, and temperatures beneath 0.15 turn rain into snowfall. The temperature drops by 0.0016 per meter above sea level, so at high elevations, information technology can be cold enough to snow despite there normally existence rain instead.

Other effects acquired past pelting:

  • While fishing, there is a shorter expect time on average to get a bite during rain.[5]
  • Wolves milkshake themselves dry if they are not moving (certain versions only).
  • Farmland becomes hydrated if it is not already.[six]
  • Rain fills up cauldrons with water, albeit slowly.
  • Tridents enchanted with Riptide tin can exist used on land.
  • Tridents with the Impaling enchantment deals more impairment during pelting.‌[ Bedrock Edition but ]
  • Villagers enter houses and stop their daily schedule.‌[ Boulder Edition only ]
  • Bees that are outside return to their hives.
  • Players are granted the Conduit Ability condition event from nearby[ more information needed ] conduits without having to exist in the aforementioned body of water.
  • Axolotls and dolphins can survive outside of water.

Rain particles [ ]

Rain particles make noise when they hit a cake, and this noise tin can exist heard at any signal within 16 blocks. These particles (along with the associated audio) can be disabled by setting particles to "Minimal" in the video settings carte.‌[ Java Edition simply ] Although rain particles are visible just in the immediate vicinity, their furnishings occur within all loaded areas. Note that raindrops autumn only in the two eye lines of a cake, thus do non visibly fall straight onto the role player. At y=i and beneath, rain does non generate particles and the associated audio result.

Trivia [ ]

Rain falling into the void.

  • Rain falls ane block into the void (Layer -i). This can be seen in creative mode by floating in the void. Note that no particles are emitted from the rain, due to the absenteeism of a block beneath it.
  • Rain still falls above the clouds. Notch explains that the gray in a higher place the clouds during a storm is another layer of clouds and the origin of the pelting.[7]
  • Raindrop splash particles tin can be seen on acme of blocks of layer 255 at most, even in biomes where it cannot pelting.
