This year'southward featured artist is Dean DiMarzo, an acrylic painter based in Naples, Florida. Many of his paintings feature coastal and nautical themes — quite fitting for New Smyrna Beach.

"We liked him this year," said Nance Koch, festival coordinator. "We look for something that might look interesting on a poster."

His featured artwork, "Wooden Boats," is an acrylic on sheet painting. DiMarzo and his work tin can be establish at booth 40.

Judges Katherine Gibson and Lisa Johnson narrowed the 237 fine artists down from a pool of 600 applicants, Koch said. Information technology's a pretty significant undertaking: Gibson and Johnson sifted through each artists' submission of three images of artwork and i of a booth infinite. That adds up to ii,400 images.

That pool will be narrowed down even farther at the juried festival, with judges considering art in categories including originality, execution, presentation and overall.

Judges seek "excellence, identity of pattern, creativity and master craftsmanship," according to the ACA. Honor winners will accept "something more, that certain feature or detail that makes a piece reach out and grab you" and sets them apart.

The reason for the positive ratings, according to Koch: "We're very expert to our artists."

The ACA provides a "beautiful artists' dinner" Sabbatum dark and lunch on Friday, Koch said, and "we listen to anything that they want to change" most the festival.

Surely a large perk is the financial heave provided through the ACA'southward patron programme. Patrons commit to spending a minimum of $200 on artwork and too brand a minimum donation of $200. Patrons cull an artwork to buy and identify a Patron's Choice Award on the artists' booth.

Some patrons, however, go far in a higher place their original commitment when they buy art.

Ane twelvemonth, Koch emailed all the patrons request how much they spent beyond their initial contribution.

"Within a half hour, I heard back from near half of them, and they spent over $200,000," she said. "I was shocked. I was expecting like, $80,000-$90,000."
